Thomas Mays is the Technology Coordinator for the Canaan School district. He is known respectfully to most of the students as the Computer Dude. He is a Systems Engineer, Sound Engineer, DJ and Remix artist.

From the time he started here the quality of the computer and networking technology has improved considerably. Mr. Mays has many years of experience in the field of computer and networking technology. He has designed and built several of the largest educational networks on the East cost. Even with a college education it was still necessary for Mr. Mays to be certified as a Field Technician, Network Engineer and Systems Engineer. One of the most difficult tasks he has come up against at Canaan is the integration of old and new technology. He has worked towards centralizing the technology so that the schools is able to host it's own website, provide email services to the faculty and staff, and provide faster Internet access through in-house filtering of web content. He is responsible for not only for the school's network but also for maintaining and supporting all of the schools computers. He also provides technical support to the staff and students.

In his free time he composes and records a style of Native American music he calls Mixed Blood Blues. Last year (2001) he won an international remix competition for Dance music from Thump Radio out of San Francisco. He also released his first CD, Red Raven Blue ~ First Flight. in the spring 2001 he went to China where he lectured on the importance of art, music and technology in education. Upon his return to the United States he performed at Pow Wows throughout New England. He was the only Native American Flutist at the Boxwood international festival for the flute held in Lunenburg Nova Scotia.

He is currently looking for ways to fund an expansion of our schools network, as well as working on his second CD.
