Eagles Easily Defeat Concord

After a double-header against Whitcomb two days earlier, the Concord Wildcats were short on pitching for their match-up against the Canaan Eagles. The Eagles showed no mercy, piling on the runs in bunches en route to a 19-4 win. The Eagles scored in all five innings, including a monstrous eight run fifth to end this game early. Control problems haunted the Concord pitching staff throughout this one, as the Eagles displayed keen eyes and drew several walks. The Canaan lineup received production from top to bottom, with every starter reaching base at least once.

The Eagles grabbed the early lead, as Alan Leigh led off with a bunt single and proceeded to steal second and third. Leigh would come across to score on an RBI ground-out by Zack Daley. Connor Daley would follow with a long drive to right-center that appeared to clear the fence for a home run, but was ruled a ground-rule-double instead. Jeremy Schichtle made sure that the call was moot by driving the run home with an RBI single.

The runs would continue to flood in over the next few innings. The Eagles had a field day on the bases, stealing almost every base without drawing a throw. The combination of wild pitching and smart base running meant that the Eagles had runners in scoring position at all times.

Zack Daley took the mound for the Eagles and picked up his second win in as many starts, working all five innings. Daley held the Wildcats scoreless through the first four innings before surrendering four runs in the fifth. The Canaan defense held solid, making few mistakes over the course of the blowout.

The win levels the Eagles' record at 2-2 on the season.
