Panthers Power Past Eagles

Though the weather was cold and rainy, the Pittsburg Panthers' bats were white hot in this Saturday matinee. The Panthers combined to hit four home runs in an 11-0 trouncing of the Canaan Eagles. The Panthers pitching duo of Hunter Judd and Luke Merrill held the Canaan offense in check all day. Jeremy Schichtle suffered his second loss of the young season after being touched for six runs in just over two innings of work.

The Panthers wasted no time taking an early lead. After Schichtle walked a two of the first three batters he faced, Marcus Chase delivered a sharp grounder that made it through the infield and allowed a run to score. Schichtle would come through with a big strikeout to get out of danger and end the first.

After a quick second inning, the Panthers would get back to scoring in a big way in the third. Logan Chase started the outburst with a solo home run to right center. Schichtle appeared to be fading fast, as the Panthers promptly loaded the bases with only one out. Hunter Judd stepped up and delivered the knockout punch with a grand slam to deep left field. The long balls would continue to fly out of the park. Marcus Chase and Tad Sierad would also go deep for the Panthers.

After three solid innings from Judd, the Panthers would turn to Merrill for the final two. The Eagles were able to get a few runners on in the fifth inning, but could not push any runs across. In addition to the powerful offense, the Panthers were nearly perfect in the field, making several nice plays to turn potential hits into outs.
