The Canaan Eagles got a strong pitching performance from Connor Daley to defeat the Stratford Lions for the second time in five days. In his first start on the season, Daley pitched brilliantly, and got enough offensive support, to pick up his first victory. The Eagles put up most of their offense on opposite ends of the scoreboard, tallying seven of their nine runs in the first and sixth innings. Despite their best efforts, the Lions could not get anything going offensively, and the Eagles rolled to a 9-0 win.

Stratford starter Mike McGee was almost out of the first inning unscathed, retiring two of the first three Canaan batters, before a three-run, two-out rally commenced. Jeremy Schichtle got things going with a bloop double to score Zack Daley. The Smith brothers, Jake and Eli, came through with consecutive RBI singles to put Canaan ahead 3-0 after one inning.

Connor Daley went back to work, sitting the Lions down with three straight strikeouts in the second. The Eagles would score one additional run in the second. Jason Charest drew a one-out walk, and quickly stole second base to put himself in scoring position. With two outs, Zack Daley chopped a slow-roller down the third base line. Charest, running hard the entire play, was able to score from second after Daley beat the throw to first.

Both teams would go down quietly in the third and fourth innings. Stratford pulled McGee after the fourth inning and inserted Brandon Lynch on the mound. The Eagles would manufacture another run to pull ahead 5-0 in the fifth. Schichtle led off the inning with another double, advanced to third on a grounder, and scored on an Eli Smith sacrifice.

After five dazzling innings of work, Connor Daley's day was done, and Schichtle took the mound looking to close this one out. Schichtle appeared to have recovered from his previous rocky outing against Pittsburg, striking out four Lions in two innings of work.

The Eagles' bats come to life in the sixth inning with a pair of long balls. Zack Daley launched a two-run homer to deep center field to put his team ahead 7-0. Two batters later, Jake Smith deposited a ball over the right field fence for another round-tripper.

The win lifts the Eagles' record above the .500 mark at 3-2 now on the season.
