Lady Eagles Come Up Short in Cabot

The Cabot Huskies were able to hold off a fiery Canaan squad on Friday night, winning 47-43. A back and forth affair throughout, this game could have gone either way. Unfortunately, despite having the lead at the half, the Lady Eagles dropped their second straight to start the season. The offense finally clicked, but the defense struggled to contain the Cabot offense.

From the opening tip, it was apparent that these two teams would be in close battle until the final buzzer sounded. The Lady Eagles were able to force multiple turnovers, leading to easy fastbreak hoops, but the Huskies were able to keep pace. Miranda Havalotti converted open shots inside, giving her team a well-needed offensive spark. At halftime, the Lady Eagles were clinging to a slim lead.

As the game wore on in the second half, the Canaan defense appeared to get tired. Cabot took full advantage, snatching offensive rebounds and netting open jumpers. Paige Marchand tried to keep her team close, aggressively driving to the hoop and drawing fouls, but could not overcome the Cabot attack.

Marchand led the Lady Eagles with 17 points, while Havalotti added 10 and Danielle Harris 9.
