After defeating Chelsea on Friday night, the Canaan Lady Eagles moved on to face The Sharon Academy Phoenix in the championship game of the Cabot Tournament. This game was everything a championship game hopes to be, as it was intense and came down to the wire. The score was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than 6 points at any juncture of the game. Points were at a premium, making each and every possession crucial. When push came to shove, the Phoenix were able to convert just enough opportunities to come out on top.
After a low scoring first quarter, the score was knotted 6-6. It was apparent that defense was once again going to dominate this game. Sharon managed to pull ahead in the second quarter and take a slim three-point lead in halftime, 14-11.
The Phoenix were able to double their lead in the third quarter, scoring 11 points to the Lady Eagles' 8, to take a 25-19 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Eagles battled back and chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the score at 31-31 on an Annick Marquis basket. In the final minute of action, Sharon's Eliza Chadwick came up with the big shot, draining a game-winning three-pointer.
Danielle Harris led the Lady Eagles in the scoring column, netting 11 points. Marquis and Paige Marchand contributed 8 points each in the losing effort.
The loss leaves the Lady Eagles at 6-4 at the halfway point of the season.
