The Dance Team is back at Canaan Memorial High School after a three year break. Recently hired music teacher Alison Arter has rejuvenated the program that was once praised throughout the community for its performances during sporting events. The team already consists of 15 members in grades 9-12, but Ms. Arter has stressed that anyone is welcome to join. Practices are being held after school on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as on Saturdays.
Due to the delayed start, the Dance Team is still currently working on perfecting their first routine. Ms. Arter said that the team "would like to build a solid routine and then add other routines when the first is finished". The goal for the team is to have a routine in which they feel confident enough to perform in front of crowds at assemblies or sports games. The Dance Team is incorporating a myriad of dance styles into their routines so as to make their performances unique and original.
In an effort to raise money for the club, the Dance Team may host a dance or a movie night in the future. Ms. Arter added that the team has been practicing so hard that she expects they will be ready to perform soon.
