NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The nine members of the National Honor Society have been hard at work raising money for various organizations. Headed by business teacher Stephanie Lyons, President Zack Daley, and Vice President Melanie Rodrigue, the NHS has launched a successful fundraiser in each of the two semesters during the school year.

The first was a canned food drive for the local food pantry. Tables were set up in the elementary and the high school to gather nonperishable food items that could be used to help feed the needy during the cold winter months. With all the items gathered throughout the school, the food pantry had plenty of food to survive the holiday season, with room for seconds.

The most recent fundraiser was started in the beginning of March. The NHS became involved with helping sell "Shamrocks for Muscular Distrophy". Each year on St. Patrick's Day, schools pair up with the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) to sell paper shamrocks. The shamrocks are available for a dollar a piece, with all the profits being donated to the MDA.

The NHS will hold its inducation ceremony for new members this spring.
