Colebrook Holds Off Canaan

After hanging tough for the better part of fifty minutes, the Colebrook Mohawks were able to pull away late from a fiery Canaan squad to continue their undefeated season. Colebrook easily defeated the Eagles earlier this season by an eight-goal margin, but it was a different story on this side of the Connecticut. Physical play disrupted and frustrated the high-flying Mohawk attack for some time, but could not prevent Colebrook from winning 4-1.

The scoring began extremely early in the match. Colebrook was able to score in the first minute of action, as Jeff Richer redirected a Ryan Call cross perfectly into the net for the early advantage. Not distraught by the quick score, the Eagles responded with solid, physical defense. The Mohawks kept steady pressure on the Canaan defense, but struggled to put shots on net. Only one addition goal could be pushed past Canaan goalkeeper Jake Smith before halftime.

The Eagles were not disheartened by the two-goal deficit, and continued to hold off the Colebrook attack. Limited offensive opportunities caused the defense to pull up closer to midfield, which yielded mixed results. Call was able to move into the goalie's box and fire a shot past Smith to give Colebrook the 3-0 lead and a stranglehold on the match. Perhaps complacent with a safe lead, the Mohawks defense was caught off-guard with a quick strike from Zack Daley. A Colebrook shot was gobbled up by Smith, who proceeded to send a thunderous punt into the heart of the opposing defense. Daley was able to maneuver past defenders and blast a shot past a diving Brad Woodard for Canaan's lone goal.

A late Steven Crete goal regained the three-goal lead for the Mohawks.

Canaan continues to dance around the .500 mark, dropping below it now with a record of 5-6. The Eagles will look to once again level their record with a showdown against Pittsburg on the 9th.
