Both offenses were in full force in this one, combining for forty shots and seven goals. The goalkeepers were kept active on both sides, totaling thirty four saves. In the end, Canaan was able to hold off the Burke Mountain attack long enough to savor the 4-3 victory. The back-and-forth scoring in this match made for an exciting game to watch on either side.
Burke held the upper-hand in the first half, holding two separate leads while never trailing. Katy Kirkpatrick started the Burke scoring on a shot from outside the goalie's box in the fifteenth minute. The Lady Eagles did not falter and answered quickly. A corner kick from Paige Marchand was placed beautifully into the middle of the field. Amidst the scramble, Vicky Harris was able to put a foot on the ball and even the score at 1-1. The tie game would be short-lived, as Burke netted their second goal of the half a mere two minutes later. Adrienne Morann was able to sneak one past Canaan keeper Miranda Havalotti after a defensive breakdown in front of the goal. The 2-1 Burke advantage would hold until halftime.
As the second half began and progressed, both teams seemed to have trouble getting quality shots on goal. However, Canaan would catch a break in the 60th minute. A Burke infraction in the goalie's box led to a penalty shot, which would be cashed in by Annick Marquis to level the score once again. The goal sparked Marquis, who would take a pass from Harris and score her second goal of the match minutes later. The Canaan offense continued to pummel the Burke defense. Sam Fortin would score the fourth and eventual game-winning goal with less than twenty minutes remaining.
The two goal advantage appeared to be enough for the Lady Eagles, but Burke would not go quietly. Another deep shot would find the back of the net off the foot of Makenzie Brown in the 67th minute to bring the score to 4-3. The last ten minutes of action were packed full of intensity, but the Burke offense could not get the equalizer.
The Canaan defense held strong to ensure the victory. It was the second consecutive victory for the Lady Eagles, who evened their overall record on the season to 3-3.
