Colebrook Cruises Past Canaan

A steady, persistent attack from the Colebrook Mohawks proved to be too much for the Lady Eagles, cruising to a 5-0 victory. Despite having only a one goal advantage going into half, Colebrook appeared to be in control at all times during the match. The Canaan offense could do little to counter the Mohawk charge, mustering only three total shots while allowing 34.

The shots were coming fast and furious in the opening frame. Colebrook fired fifteen first half shots, thirteen of which were on goal. Canaan goalkeeper Miranda Havalotti was able to weather the flurry of offense, tallying nearly half of her 28 saves in the opening minutes. The opening goal came in the 24th minute off the foot of Kristin Call, who was able to clean up a rebound in front of the net. The Mohawks continued to pepper the goal with shots, but were unable to put another ball past Havalotti Despite being out-shot 15-2, the Lady Eagles were still within one goal, trailing 1-0 at half.

The Mohawk attack continued into the second half, as the Canaan defense began to show signs of vulnerability. Call broke through in the 51st minute with her second goal to push the score to 2-0. Brooke Stevens would add the third Mohawk goal less than three minutes later to put this match out of reach. Two late goals from Dana Lyons would further increase the lead, which would stand at 5-0 when the final whistle sounded.

Canaan coach Tim Gray was distraught at his squad's trouble communicating and moving to the ball without bunching. The loss drops the Lady Eagles record below .500, now standing at 3-4-1. It won't get any easier this week, as Canaan will travel to Alexander Galt to face a tough Piper team Thursday.
