A balanced and unrelenting attack from the Alexander Galt Pipers proved to be too much for Canaan. Seven different players scored for the Pipers en route to an 8-0 win. Scoring opportunities were difficult to come by, as the Piper defense disrupted and foiled every offensive charge mounted by the Eagles, who where shutout for the first time this season.
Alexander Galt utilized their wings early in the match, scoring twice in the opening ten minutes on crosses that found their way through the defense. The Eagles held the score at 2-0 until the 39th minute, when the Pipers took advantage of a redirected corner kick to take a 3-0 lead into the half.
The second half was more of the same from both sides. The Pipers netted their fourth goal of the match just four minutes removed from the break to put a stranglehold on the match. Despite the insurmountable deficit, the Eagles fought hard for the entire eighty minutes.
Sadly, with the outcome of the match already decided, an injury occurred. Senior winger Danielle Harris, hustling to gain possession of a ball, collided with a Piper defender. While the defender quickly popped back up, Harris remained down clutching her right knee in obvious pain. The injury was diagnosed as a sprain, sidelining Harris for a minimum of two weeks, at which point she will be reevaluated.
The defeat drops the Lady Eagles to 1-2, but the injury of Harris could prove to be the bigger loss in this one.
