On Thursday, April 24, families are invited to the third annual “Pizza and Poems Night” inside the cafeteria at 4:30 pm. At this free event, kids can play some poetry-themed games, eat some yummy food, participate in a fun scavenger hunt, and even shop at the Scholastic Book Fair.
The Scholastic Book Fair is less than one week away! From April 21-25, families can buy books, games, posters, and other amazing items from the Book Fair, which will be held inside the school library between 7:30 am-3:30 pm every day that week. Happy shopping!
Today's Varsity Baseball & Softball away games against Gorham have been postponed.
I first want to thank all of your support in all the fundraisers that are going on throughout the year for all clubs and classes. I understand it becomes a lot. I have made the students also very aware of this as we start another one.
This year our Key Club has been in a rebuilding year where we are focusing on regaining funds, student attendance and community/school service events. With that being said, we decided not to attend District Convention with the costs but we still applied and actually placed first and qualified for the International Convention. For our small school this is a huge honor to qualify at a national level and we would love to have representatives from Canaan be able to attend, compete, have two representatives vote on National Club leaders and club amendments.
So, with that being said I have 4 girls: Liah, Cora, Aislinn, and Shelby who would like to attend in Orlando, Florida. We will need to raise quite a bit of money before attendance so you may see an increase in fundraising. I understand the recurring pressure of fundraising but these are our circumstances so I feel it is important you are aware of the situation we are in. All your support is greatly appreciated.
The students will be having a bake sale next Saturday at Solomons if you'd like a goodie or even make one!
We will also be selling handmade quilt raffle tickets for $5 each
We have handmade tye dye socks/bags for sale if you want to check them out as well, fliers will be sent home for students to take advantage of at a later date.
Stay tuned for more!
Attached is a little more information about our team members & ICON itself.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Sierra

We held a community forum on March 20th to discuss our current Community Schools Planning grant. Topics discussed included; community connections, Canaan's EPIC Afterschool Center, and mental health concerns. On April 10th we will hold another community forum to discuss adult education. We are seeking additional input from the community in regards to these topics as we prepare to apply for an additional grant to target the needs in our community around these topics. Responses are due by April 14, 2025. Thank you in advance for taking the time to offer some important feedback!

Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe term three is closing and it's time for Parent/Teacher conferences!
Parents of elementary grade students (K-6) are invited to meet with their child(ren)'s teacher in person on Friday, April 4th. These conferences are a great opportunity to discuss report cards, assessment scores, classroom concerns, etc.
On the reverse side you will find a meeting request form along with each individual teacher's availability. Click here to download the form https://5il.co/3bp6o
Please complete the request form by filling in your child's name, grade and l 5t, 2nd and 3rd choice for meeting times. We will do our best to accommodate your request(s) but, unfortunately, cannot guarantee them. If you are unable to come in person, a phone call conference and/or zoom meet can be accommodated. Please put down what will work for you on your times picked for a phone call or zoom meet.
Please return the completed form to the school by Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Important Note: Grades K through 6 DO NOT have classes that day; however, students in grades 7 through 12 will have classes as usual.

On March 15 we had a Chess Tournament. The two teams were Knights of the Round Table and Queens of the Octagon Table. The team that won was the Queens coming in at 11.5 and the Knights came in at 9.5. There was some really close games. Thank you all who participated and came out to see the two teams compete. In third place for the individuals was Josh Avery with 3 wins and Tyler (adult on the Queens team) and Levi Phillips 11 year old 5th grader (student on the Knights team) tied for 1st place. It was an intense game. They both had 3.5 wins. We had 21 participants, 2 judges, and 1 arbiter. Congrats to all!

A few things they raise money for are the yearly Canaan Schools scholarship at graduation and for events they host, like the Veteran’s Day luncheon/ assembly they did in November.
