Legislative Survey on Public Education Transformation
The Vermont Legislature is conducting a survey during Town Meeting week on what Vermonters would like to see for the future of public education (read below for more information):
Governor Scott has proposed sweeping changes to our education system and the legislature is reviewing his proposal this legislative session. We know how important our education system is to our state and we also know that Vermonters have concerns about the increased cost to fund our system. It's a big effort to take on and we need your help!
As we move forward with transforming our public education system, we want to hear directly from you—students, parents, educators, and community members—about what’s working, what’s not, and what you’d like to see in the future. Your input will help shape the policies and decisions we make in the State House to ensure our public education system remains strong, provides the best possible opportunities for all students, and is a system that Vermonters can afford.
You can read Governor Scott's education plan at www.governor.vermont.gov/strongerschools.
This survey is made up of 20 optional questions and can be accessed here: https://bit.ly/VoiceVermontEducation. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts.

To celebrate "Read Across America Week," students are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a pillow, blanket, and stuffed animal to the library to "read under the stars" on these days: Tuesday (Kindergarten & Grade 6), Wednesday (Grade 4/5), Thursday (Grade 1 & Grade 3), and Friday (Grade 2).

It is time to celebrate Read Across America Week! Tomorrow on Monday, March 3rd, elementary students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite fictional characters in order to earn prizes from the librarian. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kaitlin Wood at kwood@canaanschools.org. Thank you!

Canaan Schools will be adjusting the student drop off and pick-up procedures in response to concerns about student safety starting March 3, 2025. Our new procedures will be:
1. Student drop off and pick up times will be at 7:35 am and 2:50 pm.
2. Bus students will be dropped off at 7:30 am and picked up at 2:45 pm. All buses and cars dropping off students will enter the lower parking lot.
3. Cars will not be allowed in front of the buses. If you arrive early you must wait in the lower parking lot. Do not park at the top of the road where pick up and drop off will be until all the buses have left.
4. Between the hours of 7:20 am to 8:00 am and 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm, no student drop off or pick up will be allowed in the upper parking lot.
5. Effective March 3, 2025, parents/guardians will not be allowed in the building without a visitor pass; this has been a major safety concern for our staff and students. There will be no exception to this rule without permission of an administrator or a visitor pass. All of these changes have been discussed with administration, the leadership committees, and at the request of community members.
Please reach out to Principal Ron Patterson with any questions or concerns.

The "Books Are Fun" Book Blast: Our school's third annual Book Blast has officially begun! Elementary students will bring home a "treasure map" this week that includes instructions for how they can sign up for the event, which offers free books and prizes to children in preschool through sixth grade. Last year, the program was so successful that every student was given at least eight free books! Elementary students who are registered for the Book Blast are also eligible to win the Epic Treasure Chest, which is filled with several amazing items, such as an Amazon Fire tablet, an inflatable chair, a burrito blanket, and even a glow in the dark airfort. To register your child, you are welcome to follow the instructions on your child's treasure map, or you can simply use the link here: https://app.booksarefun.com/CanaanSch05903
