To All Parents and Guardians:
Canaan Schools will be doing an EVACUATION DRILL on Thursday May 15th at 10am grades PK - 12th. During an “Evacuation Drill”, students will be safely escorted along a designated evacuation route to one of our predetermined evacuation sites. At the conclusion of the drill, all students will be escorted back to the school.
For the safety of everyone involved and to maintain order, we respectfully ask that you would abide by the following during these drills: • Do not come to the school campus • Do not call the school offices (as they will be busy with the drill or actual emergency) • Do not contact students or staff members via cell phone or social media (as they will be busy with the drill or actual emergency) • Avoid social media posts. Correct information will be disseminated through our automated system as soon as possible. • Please make sure that your contact information is current at all times so that you can be reached without delay in the event of an emergency. • In the event of an actual emergency evacuation, you will receive notification where to pick up your child as soon as practicable.
Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work.
If you have any questions regarding any of these Safety Drills or other safety concerns, please contact your school office, or the office of the superintendent.
Sincerely,
Ronald Patterson
Principal

Tomorrow at 4:30pm, families can have a fun time eating yummy food and participating in a scavenger hunt at the "Pizza and Poems" event. Everyone who attends will also receive a free lemonade, and you can even shop at the Book Fair. We hope to see you there!

Today students in Grades 1-6 walked to the Coos County Nursing Home to deliver No- Sew Bunnies they made during last week's Tuesday collaboration program.
Tuesday morning collaboration activities incorporate one or more of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) pillars, Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.
We are proud to say that these pillars were demonstrated throughout our field trip by all of our students.
A huge thank you to the Coos County Nursing Home staff for bringing some of the residents down to accept their new stuffed bunnies!

No chess club tonight because of the book fair in the library and no chess club next Monday because the coach, Frankie Sawicki, will be in Guatemala on a medical mission and you will be on Spring Break. Have fun.

Save the date - this Sunday, April 27! 1840 will be hosting an edu-wait night where our Key Club members will be at your service. Doors open at 4 pm. All proceeds will support students attending the International Convention. We hope to see you there!

On Thursday, April 24, families are invited to the third annual “Pizza and Poems Night” inside the cafeteria at 4:30 pm. At this free event, kids can play some poetry-themed games, eat some yummy food, participate in a fun scavenger hunt, and even shop at the Scholastic Book Fair.

The Scholastic Book Fair is less than one week away! From April 21-25, families can buy books, games, posters, and other amazing items from the Book Fair, which will be held inside the school library between 7:30 am-3:30 pm every day that week. Happy shopping!

Today's Varsity Baseball & Softball away games against Gorham have been postponed.

I first want to thank all of your support in all the fundraisers that are going on throughout the year for all clubs and classes. I understand it becomes a lot. I have made the students also very aware of this as we start another one.
This year our Key Club has been in a rebuilding year where we are focusing on regaining funds, student attendance and community/school service events. With that being said, we decided not to attend District Convention with the costs but we still applied and actually placed first and qualified for the International Convention. For our small school this is a huge honor to qualify at a national level and we would love to have representatives from Canaan be able to attend, compete, have two representatives vote on National Club leaders and club amendments.
So, with that being said I have 4 girls: Liah, Cora, Aislinn, and Shelby who would like to attend in Orlando, Florida. We will need to raise quite a bit of money before attendance so you may see an increase in fundraising. I understand the recurring pressure of fundraising but these are our circumstances so I feel it is important you are aware of the situation we are in. All your support is greatly appreciated.
The students will be having a bake sale next Saturday at Solomons if you'd like a goodie or even make one!
We will also be selling handmade quilt raffle tickets for $5 each
We have handmade tye dye socks/bags for sale if you want to check them out as well, fliers will be sent home for students to take advantage of at a later date.
Stay tuned for more!
Attached is a little more information about our team members & ICON itself.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Sierra

We are finally in the trophy case at school. Good job everyone that came out to participate and spectate. The Knights of the Round Table chess club meets on Mondays, 3-4 pm, in the Canaan School Library. 3rd - 12th grade can join. Thank you Kim Sweatt for making the sign. You are so cool!

We held a community forum on March 20th to discuss our current Community Schools Planning grant. Topics discussed included; community connections, Canaan's EPIC Afterschool Center, and mental health concerns. On April 10th we will hold another community forum to discuss adult education. We are seeking additional input from the community in regards to these topics as we prepare to apply for an additional grant to target the needs in our community around these topics. Responses are due by April 14, 2025. Thank you in advance for taking the time to offer some important feedback!
